What’s in your heart?

The bible tells us that the heart is wicked and deceitful in all its ways, and no man can know it.  It also tells us that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Michaela came home today with a disciplinary action report for yelling, “Get the f*ck out of my face!”  To someone at recess – or to a group of kids?  I don’t even know…  In any case, as I told her, and her siblings, the words that come forth from their mouths are a reflection of what is in their hearts.  What is in your heart?  I explained that the reason God chose the tongues as evidence that the Holy Spirit is living inside of your heart because the tongue is the most unruly member of the body.  It is difficult to tame.  Life and death lie in the tongue.  It is so powerful.  So many, I think, do not realize the magnitude of the power that lies within the tongue!  Blessings and cursings are spewed.  But we cannot live and love that way.  My prayer, daily, and I hope it becomes theirs too is: Create in me a clean heart and purify me.  Renew a right spirit in me, oh God.  Again, I ask, what’s in your heart?  We’ll all know by the words that you speak.
