After the Rain

“It takes sunshine and rain to make a rainbow. There would be no rainbows without sunshine and rain.”Roy T. Bennett

Today while driving to work, I allowed the tears flow. There’s something about the safety of my car, or the viewing of a KDrama, that frees me to cry. When typically, I will not allow myself the time or space for tears to fall. I remembered one of my themes for myself this year – Remember to look up, no matter what life throws at me. I followed my own advice, and you will never guess what I saw! It was the most magnificent rainbow unfolding before me!

At first I saw only a part of the rainbow, joy filled my heart at once. Thank you, Lord for your promises, my prayer upon my lips. As I continued to drive, the arc continued to spread, the colors deepened. I daresay I could make out every shade. I glanced at the other drivers around me, are they seeing what I’m seeing? Why is no one else reacting because of this beautiful sight – smile or something?! I have seen many rainbows, but each one I see is like my first one, they bring me so much joy as I consider the convenant between God and humanity.

Yesterday, I did something challenging. I let go. I hadn’t even realized I was holding onto him. I took his passing hard, it’s true, but holding on… I didn’t realize I needed to release him too… Today, as strange as it may sound, maybe it was the rainbow, I have no doubt it was God, I had peace. Not to say everything is A-OK, but God can give us peace that surpasses all understanding, isn’t that right? It’s what I have experienced today. I learned not to look down at the glib circumstances surrounding me, and look up… We have only to look up…
