No Mistakes

One thing I have come to learn about life is that, there are no mistakes. Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance. I may not like the way things happened in my life, to bring me to a certain point – this point, where I am at this very moment, but they were all apart of a greater plan. Remembering that is not always easy.

Yesterday was not really a great day. It wasn’t a terrible day either. It’s just that I was sorta snowed in again, only this time it was just me and my non-human friend. Usually, I’m okay when it’s Daddy’s weekend with the kids. I mean, on top of homework, there are things to do around the house, friends to meet up with for dinner/dessert/paint night/baseball season will be starting up soon… But, yesterday – this weekend there was me, my pup, my homework, Alexa, and my KDramas. So, mostly homework, with a few breaks to play in the snow with my pup.

In my quiet moments, of doing nothing, because my girl was snoring, not so softly, next to me, I reflected on some things… My value, my worth, how I came to be here, at this very moment. One thing that echoed in my ear so loudly that I could hardly ignore it was the idea that everything happens for a reason and I am right where I am supposed to be. This idea sounds foreign to me, how can this be where I’m supposed to be? How could everything in my life, up to this point that led me to this place have had a purpose – when it feels as though, at this very moment, my life is far from ideal.

“The hardest thing about “everything happens for a reason” is waiting for that reason to show up.” Karen Salmansohn

I remembered a story that I once heard: A man was giving a presentation to a large group of individuals. He took out a $20 bill and asked, “Who wants this $20?” Hands all over the room went up. He crumpled the $20, and tossed it on the ground, trampling on it with his feet. Again, he asked, “Now, who wants this $20?” The same hands went up…

You see, it didn’t matter what happened to the $20 or how it looked on the exterior, it never lost it’s worth or it’s value… Kind of like myself, or anyone who has ever endured any hardship or trauma… We often feel as though we lose who we are, we lose our value, our worth, but it isn’t so! No matter what hand life has dealt us, or what we have had to endure, we still have value, still have worth.

While I may not know the reason why things turned out the way they did, I know they turned out this way for a reason. I have learned a valuable skill – patience. As I wait patiently, for the reason to be revealed, for my next steps to be made clear, I revel in the knowledge that I have value – I have worth! All things that have happened, have happened for a reason.
