“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” Psalms 121:1-2 KJV
How often do you catch yourself looking down at your current situation? I catch myself doing this occasionally, then I find myself overwhelmed. Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, annoyed, irritated – you know those emotions that tend to drain you – are often indicators that we are looking down at what is going on in our life, rather than taking a pause to look up and allow God to handle it for us..
Our help comes from the Lord, our salvation is in Him. It isn’t down in our current circumstance. It isn’t in the mess. Why look in the mess? When all we need to do is look up!
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV (verse of my current season)
In my current state, I have acknowledged with God that there are times when I lean to my own understandings, abilities, knowledge… And I forget to look up. I forget that I serve a great big God, who is my help and He wants to help me. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart… Not some of it, not even sometimes. In fact, doing this yields a promise. He promises to direct my paths. I don’t even have to think about which way to go, or if this decision will be the correct one. Because, God has already taken care of all that.
Not only is He my help, He is guides me. I have only to trust Him and look up!
And for His people, those who love Him, there is nothing He will not do. He prepares the way, fights every battle, and protects. His eyes see everything. And He shows Himself strong.
“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9a KJV
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He has prepared my way. I have stopped trusting in what I can do. Because if I’m honest, I can do very little on my own. I have stopped looking to what I know. Because, what is my “knowledge” compared to our Omniscient God? And I decided to fully trust in Him. I have shifted my perspective, even if it means just a shift in my neck. No longer looking down, instead I have learned to just look up!
