“Sometimes people fall through the cracks.”
This statement rubbed me so terribly wrong. Perhaps because I fell through the cracks? Or because of the countless people I see falling through the cracks… Or maybe because who said it? As if it were some sort of excuse for why we weren’t doing all that God called us to do when it came to reaching out to those who maybe aren’t quite like us. I do my best to extend my time, love to them, especially when I see them slipping, hurting, my heart today is breaking.
I don’t know how we can allow people to fall through the cracks and be okay with that? My heart aches for those whom seem to be slipping through the cracks. They know who they are. They feel every bit unseen as they slip further and further away. It’s these individuals, for whom my heart aches. Perhaps because I’ve been there? Because, one day not so long ago, I looked into the face of my daughter and told her, with so much love, God sees you and He loves you! Causing us both to break inside. I hadn’t realized, she had been falling through the cracks. She was feeling unseen.
“Thank you for reaching out, we finally laid my father to rest yesterday. You and one other person are the only ones who cared to check on me during this time. It means so much, but honestly I don’t think I will be back to church.”
Another precious person, whom we allowed to slip through the cracks? I do not personally know the pain of losing a parent. I have lost many people close to me. I have witnessed friends and family lose their parents… So, I imagine this is not a place I ever want to be… Here my dear friend whom has reached out for help, has fallen through the cracks…
A new believer in Christ, so I encourage, Please don’t allow this to impact your faith. Don’t give up on church or God.
My heart just aches, as I consider the situation, and countless others like it. How many people have fallen through the cracks? How many have walked through the doors of a church needing, hungry, desperate, only to leave unseen?
God sees. He sees everything. Not one of us is outside of His reach. Still, I must believe that He places people like you and me out here in the world to do His work. So that people don’t go unseen. So that they don’t slip through the cracks. We have to be the change in both the world and the church today, because tomorrow will surely be too late.

As a person who has spent a great deal of time “in the cracks” I can say we have learned a few things.
1) Most importantly God is with us there. To me, it seems, He is closer to us when we are suffering there than anywhere else. I know that is not true but I am sure am glad that when people reject us God draws us closer to Himself.
2) People can’t help their betraying ‘self’ nature. We all have it and I understand when it comes out because of fear, pain, selfishness or whatever. It is ok. God does not condemn. There are consequence though when we see the poor and needy and do not help. Not only are we storing up future pain for ourselves but we are also denying ourselves present blessings. When we love those with nothing to give back God honors us with greater love. Those that are miserly with their love and belongings I can only feel pity for.
3) Just because we are in a crack does not excuse us from following Jesus and being like Him. Regardless of our state we are still called to overcome ‘self’, live obediently to His following and love extravagantly. This is essential otherwise ‘self’-pity will suck you in faster than a huckster playing 3 card monty.
4) Be at peace He has us. I refuse to get worked up about things that are not in my control, such as my life. I am in His hands. Full stop. The sooner I realize that the better off I am.
Great post by the way. 🙂
Blessings,
Homer Les

Thank you for your insights. I know for fact that God is near to the broken-hearted. I have lived and experienced this for myself. You are also correct, there is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ and walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. It is all about love. Loving as Christ has given us the example to love. Loving as He has instructed. Thank you again!

It’s so difficult to know how much others hurt and even if they tell us, we can encourage them still only our Lord knows and only Him can heal their wounds.. the Question is : do they know who is Jesus? Can they hear His voice through the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit will minister to them and guide them to our beloved Saviour.

So very true. Jesus is the only one who can heal all hurts, I know this for fact in my own life. You are right that the Holy Spirit ministers and guides us. Thank you for your encouraging words.
