I’ll Seek YOU

Younger and younger children experience depression. Bullies, body image issues, social pressures – so many contributing factors feeding the beast known as depression.

As parents we have to stay attuned to our children. We have to stay on our knees in prayer for them. We have to cover them, stand in the gap for them and guide them through emotions that they cannot quite express.

It is important, that we seek God and teach our children the same. So often we seek approval of others that we may or may not ever receive. We seek relationships, that don’t fill the void. We see others and think, I wish I could be like him/her, never realizing that God made us in His image, and no one is better than you or me. The difference often times is that maybe one has Christ and the other is in need.

For all of the seeking that we tend to do, when/where are we seeking God?

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jeremiah‬ ‭29:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When we seek God, truly seek Him, we will find that we no longer need the approval of people. Because we will care more about obeying Him and pleasing Him than others. Our worth is found in Christ, not our friends or family. Having a relationship with God will fill any void that we may feel from past rejections, expectations we hold over ourselves, and/or what we may feel we lack. God fills that. In Him, we are made whole and complete. Seeking Him, we discover how He sees us. When we can see ourselves they way God sees us, we can also look at others in the same manner. We can increase our compassion for ourselves and others, increase our love – instead of comparing and feeling like we are lacking.

God made each of us in such a wonderful way to serve a purpose in the body of Christ. We all have a job to do. In order to do so, we must seek Him. Seek His will for our lives and listen as He guides us through.

I’ll seek You first…

Speaking to my kids the other day, I was reminded that they look to me for answers that I don’t always have. I have no choice but to be a mother on her knees. I also discovered that they are going through things that I didn’t have to at such young ages. Things, that I admit, I am facing now, or have faced not so long ago. Then, it’s like, but you’re only – ? Father, give me the words to say. Because, at such a young age and feeling worthless, what am I to do? I have no choice but to seek God for direction and the words to say.
