Shine

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:14-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes I want to hide. Correction: Often, I want to hide. However, as I was meeting with a sister last weekend, it was as though she saw right through to my very thoughts. “Your light shines too brightly for you to try to hide it!” *Gasp* Me? But, Jesus is my shelter. My hiding place. Let me hide a little while longer, please. I’m not ready to come out.

She reminded me of the verse above… “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Conviction.

Once again I was reminded how little it had to do with me. And how much it had to do with Him. That’s where I go wrong every.single.time. I don’t want to be seen because what if I – (stumble? fall? mess up? make a mistake? screw it all up? fail?) Yes, on my own, I probably will. But, it’s not about me. It’s all about Him.

The light that shines within me – within us – we didn’t put it there. It isn’t our light. It’s His light dwelling in us! Why not let it shine! Why try to hide it? We can’t! It’s too bright!

So, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. Let it shine. Let it shine.”

  1. Yes you do shine. And it is His light within you. I know the feeling though. Not wanting to come out and all. But you are right. It is not about us….it is about Him!❤👍🏽
