God With Us

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matthew‬ ‭1:21-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Emmanuel… God with us. From the beginning of time, God has desired, chosen to be with us.

To think, way back in the days when Adam an Eve were still in the Garden of Eden, He chose to be with them. Even at the moment, when the fall of man occurred… It’s not like God didn’t know it. Still, He went to the Garden, looking, calling for them… Just like He searches for and calls for us. Why? Even when we miss the mark, He offers us a chance to get it right. Because, He wants to be with us.

All throughout the scriptures we see example after example of Emmanuel. One of my favorite examples comes from Daniel 3. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were commanded to go into the exceeding hot furnace, because they would not bow down and worship the golden image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. I love this part of the story:

“Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Daniel‬ ‭3:22-25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Those three not only went into the fiery furnace, neither their clothes, hair, or skin were burnt or singed! And! God was with them in the midst of it!

God is with us even in the fiery furnace!

This gives me so much hope! Sometimes we go through trials in life and it feels like we are struggling/suffering/enduring the fiery furnace all alone! Whether we are in the fiery furnace, down in a pit, on a mountaintop, on the right or wrong path – God is with us! He longs to be with us. He desires a relationship with us.

Just like Adam and Eve hid from him – it isn’t like He didn’t know where they were… Sometimes we hide – or think we are hiding. Because we are ashamed – or afraid of being exposed. He only wants us to get back in right standing with Him, so we can once again be with Him. Because, since the beginning of time, God has desired, chosen to be with us.

  1. Very good point indeed. Thank you for that. As I was reading this, the thought occurred to mind that not only will He be with us who have a valued relationship with Him….we will come out of the fire without any signs of being burn. And within the fire, we will be able to move around and carry ourselves in the same manner as before we step in the fire. Our strength and joy comes from our valued relationship that God affords to us and desires of us.❤

  2. That’s so beautiful, my sister.
I’ve thought about this, too, recently, that HE is always with us. Regardless of what we are doing and regardless of who else is or isn’t there… and HIM being with us changes everything.
Thank you for posting this, I was blessed. GOD bless you!
