Come Home

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling—

  Calling for you and for me;

Patiently Jesus is waiting and watching—

I woke up with this hymnal on my mind… Come home! Come home! Jesus is calling, O sinner, come home!

They don’t sing songs like this in churches anymore. I wish they did. Then, maybe, we wouldn’t allow the sin that separates us from God to consume us and keep us separated. We would know, we would remember, we would hear Him calling/beckoning us back home.

Jesus died on the cross to reconcile us back to Himself. Through His death, burial, and resurrection, we have forgiveness, we have redemption. Yet, so often, we live separated by sin. Even if we seek forgiveness, we may feel condemnation, guilt, shame. We may feel as though we are not worthy of His forgiveness. This is not God’s doing.

Too often we attribute to God the works of man.

God is love. I think we forget that. I have at times. Because I have felt that others DIDN’T love me. Or because, I didn’t receive forgiveness from others, I thought, well, they didn’t forgive me, why would God. Because, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” Numbers‬ ‭23:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬ And doesn’t the Word say: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Come home! He calls prodigals like me. I’m so glad that I answered the call. I don’t want to even think about where I would be, especially with the state of the world today.

You know, I think about the parable of the prodigal son.. The father waited, watched daily for his son to return home. How much more does our Father who is in heaven wait and watch for us to return to Him when we go astray? God waits for us, day after day, month after month, and sometimes year after year – for us to come home…
