It doesn’t cost us anything to forgive. Actually, holding onto past, our present, hurts, wrongs, rejections costs is a a great deal. Trust me, I know – speaking from experience.
Have you ever found yourself avoiding a person, or people? I have. Not realizing that I was holding a debt against them. All the while praying: … forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors… Yeah, my prayers were in vain, empty words. Thank God for showing me my folly.
Sometimes, it seems as if we think forgiving someone is going to cost us more than we can afford. On the contrary, not forgiving someone will cost us our souls, our salvation, our relationship with Christ.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not willing to risk heaven for a bit of unforgiveness. I have had to lay down pride (which we aren’t supposed to have) for the sake of truly forgiving someone whom I perceived had done me wrong. I recognized that I needed to not only repent, but seek forgiveness from that person.
It didn’t cost me anything.
In fact, I felt a heavy burden lift from shoulders that I hadn’t recognized was there. I believe that we are both better for it…
Dang. I needed to hear this one. It’s easy to see yourself as a victim, instead of just forgiving someone. But sometimes – we are called to be the bigger person.

You are so right. It’s not always an easy calling.
