Comforter

“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts‬ ‭2:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Acts 2:1-4 is a well known passage in religious circles. As we acknowledge this as the birth of the church. It’s where the prophecy made by the prophet Joel 2:28-29 was fulfilled. Isaiah 28:11 also foretells of this day, and how the Lord will speak to His people. This is the basis of many doctrines today, as we are still experiencing God in this manner.

But, I still have to wonder, why isn’t it shared on a larger scale? Why aren’t all Christian or religious communities sharing this word, or preaching it in their pulpits? Isn’t it the whole basis of the New Testament/Covenant?

I suppose it just doesn’t fit the times. Rather than sharing the truth of the gospel and what thus saith the Lord, I have found that many have collapsed into the prosperity movement, the anything goes belief, the New Age. But, I’m hungry for God, for His word, for His love – all to be made manifest in my life.

I can no longer sit and listen to the mundane. I desire truth. God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to become the ultimate sacrifice, the propitiation for our sins. Jesus spoke about a day when the disciples would see Him no more, but He would send a Comforter:

“Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John‬ ‭14:19-21, 26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I’m thankful for His Spirit which has been poured out for all flesh. We know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, so these words have not been nullified.
