Trusting God?

I had a conversation with someone, not too long ago, and this person said something to me that really pricked my heart.

“I say that I trust God, but I really don’t.”

How often do we claim to trust God, yet when life happens and we struggle, we find ourselves doing the exact opposite? We know 1 Peter 5:7, how it talks about casting all (our) care upon (God), (because) He cares for (us)… But, how easy is it, really, to lay it all down at His feet and just leave it there without picking it back up?

Just let go. Just give it to God. Leave it in God’s hands. God’s got you. I have heard and said all of these things and then some. I also agree, easier said than done. But why is it easier to say it than to do it? Is it because I lack trust in God? I lack faith that He will do what He says He will do?

Looking over my life, I see how God has been faithful. Not only faithful, but He has never left me. He is always with me. When I thought I couldn’t make it through this struggle or over that obstacle – when I rested in Jesus and let Him be in control. I made it through. He has never failed me.

I’m so very thankful that despite my unfaithfulness, my unbelief, my lack of trust – He remains a faithful God and continues to love me and help me through it all.

I don’t know what part of your journey you are on, whether you are in the midst of a trial, just coming out of one, or just entering one – but allow me to encourage you to keep going. Don’t stop. Trust in God. Trust His word. Trust the promises He has made for your life. Just keep moving.

  1. My friends and I were just talking about this – I know God can and will do things, but sometimes I struggle with believing He’ll do them for me. Even though I look back and see He has taken care of me. It’s just going to take faith and trust.

  2. Good advice. When we think about the other choice – not trusting God, where does that really make anything better? I think sometimes in our limited understanding of how much God loves us we wonder more the how He will take care of us rather than the if.

    1. Not trusting God definitely does not make anything better. The sad part about not understanding how much God loves us, or even that He is love causes us to doubt Him and put human attributes onto God. I’m so thankful that He is not like us. Even robed in flesh, Jesus was full of grace, truth and love.
