Walls Like Jericho

“So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.” Joshua‬ ‭6:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We all know the story of the Walls of Jericho. It’s one of those core, or basic, Bible stories you learn as a child. Maybe it’s just me, but I was actually amazed when I read the verse above. The wall didn’t tumble down or crumble to the ground. No, it fell down flat. Isn’t that something?! Flat. No rubble, no ruins, no debris, no remains. It fell down flat.

I don’t know about you, but I have some walls that need to fall down flat. There are some things in my life – in my heart that don’t need to be there any longer. There can be no remains, no debris – nothing left. I’ve tried and failed to let go of, get rid of, tear down these walls on my own. But, I can’t do it on my own. I need God in order for these walls to fall flat. When God does a work, He does a complete work – there’s nothing leftover.

“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” Matthew‬ ‭19:26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

As I’m continually learning to trust God, I’m also really learning that there is nothing too big for Him, and everything truly is possible with God.

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” Jeremiah‬ ‭32:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

So, like in the days of Joshua and the walls of Jericho, I’m going to give God all of my praise and watch Him bring down my walls, flat. I want nothing to remain. Only God can do that.
