Far Above Rubies

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:10 KJV

Sometimes I think Proverbs 31 was written so far before it’s time. Then again, I know that there is nothing new under the sun and things happen in cycles… Still, as the days continue to darken and we are living in the darkest of days, the words take on new meaning for me.

Who can find a woman of high moral character or standard? Who can find a woman who’s worth is priceless?

I was at a ladies conference some years ago and I heard a spoken word type poem. While I don’t remember her name or the words, I remember a line that said something akin to, “we sell our bodies for the price of a meal.” I remember the cheers all around me, yet there were tears and sadness that welled up inside of me.

Sisters, daughters, mothers – we must do better. We must teach, exemplify better. We must discover who we are and who’s we are. We can no longer go through the motions. We can no longer sell ourselves short, nor give ourselves away for dinner and a movie, or less. We have been bought with a price. We were made by Jesus, for Jesus. Our virtue and our purity not only sets us apart, but also makes us His. Makes us His beloved and beautiful in His sight. We are to live in this world, not of it.

Our price is far above rubies! We must live this out.
