Marriage is Honorable

1 Timothy 4:3 NLT: “They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.”

I don’t typically do other translations of the Bible, as you know of you’ve followed my blog any length of time. However, I found this translation to be particularly intriguing.

There I was, scrolling through Instagram, not per my usual, and a post captured my attention. This post highlighted why a particular ethnic group of young people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s are choosing to forego dating, marriage, and children. I was actually caught off guard. Sure, here in the US, marriage has lost it’s sanctity and we live in a hook-up culture. But, surely there are some who still want the dating, marriage, children? I mean, I have friends and know people who are still getting married. Better yet, staying married!

To completely forego what God has ordained? And not for reasons to do with God. The reasons provided in the post surrounded career pursuits, economic gains – or hardships, gender stuff (I won’t get into here. Although I will say, culturally, I do not know, nor do I understand everything – laws, rules, customs, so I really cannot speak to this).

I really hope I do not come off as judgemental. I just hope that we don’t put away something that God established and saw that it was good, based off of how man has perverted it.

  1. The world is upside down!! They say light is dark, and dark is light. They say sweet is bitter, and bitter is sweet.

I would have hoped that the pickle mankind is in on a myriad of issues would prompt more to see how much we need our Creator’s guidance.

We are blessed to have many couples in our family (around 200 of us if you count all the cousins and marriage mates) who have been married for decades. Strong marriages, strong families, strong hearts and faith. We all pulled together throughout the pandemic and made sure everyone was cared for spiritually, emotionally, financially and in any other way needed. The Pandemic has only heightened my appreciation for how our Creator teaches us to benefit ourselves.

Isa 48:17,18: “I am your God,
The One teaching you to benefit yourself,
The One guiding you in the way you should walk.
If only you would pay attention to my commandments!
Then your peace would become just like a river
And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

    1. So well said. I couldn’t agree more, the world is upside down indeed! You are so blessed to have so many couples in your family and to have the example of strong marriages, strong families, strong hearts and faith. I have followed your blog and you have been through so much. I believe that it is because God has kept you, and because of your strength. It has been inspiring to me, personally. I don’t come from such a strong family, but there have been those who have come into my life and demonstrated the strength you speak of. It is a blessing and it provides hope for people like me, raising children, knowing that if we follow what God teaches us, we benefit ourselves.
