Be You

I saw the quote in the picture above the other day… Jesus didn’t call me to be someone else, He called me to be myself.

So often in Christianity and living for Christ, we get it all wrong. We see someone whom we think have it all together or is the model Christian, and we imitate them. Forgetting that it’s not others whom we should pattern our lives after, it’s Jesus and His Word.

It’s been nearly all my life that I had compared myself to others. Which left me feeling not good enough, worthless. But when I discovered that God has never expected me to be like those people who have never slipped, in my eyes, or are what I would consider the perfect Christian. He just wants me to be myself, in all of my struggles, doubts, pain.

God does something so beautiful with our pain, past, scars, etc… He doesn’t see my falls and faults as failures. He sees them as opportunities. They are opportunities for His light to shine, His grace to cover, His love to heal.

While I was busy trying to live like others, thinking that I could fake it ’til I made it, Christ just wanted me to be myself. Truth is, no matter how hard we try, we can never live up to anyone else. Thankfully, we don’t have to. God doesn’t expect us to. Even in our mess ups and falls, He loves us without condition.

Whoever you are, whatever you do, do it unto the Lord. We all have a purpose and a different calling. Even if you have the same calling as someone else, the way you carry it out is uniquely yours. The body of Christ is big enough for us all, without competing, without replicating one another. Be uniquely you as you carry out all that He has called you to do.
