Anxious for Nothing

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6‭-‬7 NIV

I read somewhere that Jesus was relaxed. He was never in a hurry nor anxious or afraid, even when walking through a mob of angry people who wanted to kill Him…

That’s deep.

I often find myself in a hurry. Which in turn prompts me to push everyone around me into a hurry. If you ask my children, what’s one the most common things you hear your mom say? Sadly, they’d probably respond, hurry up or move with a purpose.

I have to remind myself to slow down. Especially when I see that my hurried manner causes all sorts of anxiety for those whom I am hurrying. I often tell my son to slow down. He feels the need to run. Everywhere. Yet, I find myself not practicing what I preach. I don’t run everywhere, but rarely do I take the time to slow down, breathe, relax.

I have spent so much time being busy that I often forget to live, look around, smell the flowers, enjoy my children while they are young.

I don’t believe that God wants us to be so busy. I don’t know about you, but when I’m consumed with busyness, I tend to feel a bit anxious. This is not where God wants me, you – us.

As I move towards being anxious for nothing, I realize that I must reduce the busyness, reduce the distractions, and keep my eyes fixed on Christ.

    1. This is a lesson I learn repeatedly. And you are so right about needing to “avoid the tendency to be in a hurry and place the peace of God on a shelf.” Very well stated!

  1. Our lifestyle is accelerating without any reason. Each one of us are after something. We’re taught to be like this! Personally, I don’t and can’t do things faster and I face discrimination and criticism for this! I’m told I’ll be left behind if I’d be slow. But I don’t know! I still have to start my work life!
