Made in the Image of God

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27 KJV

You know, too often, too many of us want to bend God to fit our human image. We want God to look like us, think like us. We want Him to be one of us. We forget this verse from the beginning of His Word. He created us. We didn’t create Him. He created us in His image. Yet, time and time again, we try to conform His thoughts, His ways, who He is, to fit all nice and neat into our thoughts, our ways, our little box, until He looks like us. Then, we have this malleable idea of God that is as progressive as the times we live in.

I’m late to conversation and to be honest, Progressive Christianity, sounds more like an oxymoron to me. Hebrews 13:8 KJV tells us, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” This Progressive Christianity is characterized by its willingness to question tradition in a movement known as Deconstructionism. This is where truths, beliefs, ideas etc… are taken apart into smaller components to find the foundation and usefulness, then they are supposed to be reconstructed into some sort of faith. The issue with this is that once people start deconstructing – or trying to deconstruct Christianity, the Word of God, what they generally reconstruct on their own is agnosticism, atheism – something along those lines… Reason being is that many do not tend to seek God in the Word of God.

Jeremiah 29:13 KJV “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

What is the basis of any doctrine, religious/spiritual journey without God? I’ll tell you: nothing.

Rather than attempting to manipulate God and His Word to fit us, our beliefs, the ever changing times, and society, we must accept God as He is – infallible, never changing, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent. We must bend, conform, change – do whatever it takes to surrender and submit to His will. We are His creation, after all. How easily we forget.
