“…because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” Isaiah 53:12b NIV
Sometimes as I lay in bed at night, I think of what my Savior has done for me. How He gave His life, bore my sin, made intercession for me – a sinner. And He did it all for love.
There is nothing that I can or could ever do to have caused Jesus to decide to do that for me. He did it all for love.
I admit, there are times throughout my days that I can become so caught up with this present darkness and even a tainted sense of self, that I fail to realize that I’m no better than those who yelled, Crucify Him!
No, I don’t say this with my words. I don’t know that it’s even what I say in my heart. Still, there’s this nagging feeling inside, as I reflect and am reminded again and again that as Jesus was on the cross, Luke’s gospel describes: Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do… Luke 23:34a KJV
I don’t know that we (okay, I’ll keep it personal here) I don’t know that I always comprehend the weight, wages, and impact on Jesus of sin. I don’t go around trying to commit all the sins. Truth is, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23 KJV Not that this gives us an excuse or occasion for sin. Rather, my hope is that, at least for myself, when I find myself having sinned against Jesus, I want to be like David and offer God, true repentance in the form of a broken spirit: a broken and contrite heart… Psalm 51:17b KJV
Of the soldiers that executed the crucifixion and people that did say, Crucify Him! And everyone else involved.. I wonder, did they – any one of them – ever come to a place of repentance?
I’m so grateful today that I – we don’t have to remain in a fallen, Crucify Him state. There is forgiveness. We can get up, get in line, keep going. We can help one another to get up and stay on track.
I’m thankful for the grace and love and mercy of Jesus. It really is new everyday. Though we are not deserving, I’m so thankful that He saw past us and did it all for love.
