Doing What’s Right

Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 1:9 that there’s nothing new under the sun… But, I think there’s a first time for each of us to be faced in any particular situation.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20 KJV

In the times we live in, there appears to have been a blurring of the lines between good and evil, right and wrong. What’s good and right is not only unpopular, but also shunned, maybe even outright discouraged.

I teach my children to do what’s right, no matter the cost, no matter the situation, no matter the outcome. I do my best to live by the words I teach – to be an example, not just, Do as I say, not as I do

Learn to do right; seek justice and correct the oppressor. Defend the fatherless and plead the case of the widow. Isaiah 1:17 NIV

One of the most difficult, yet rewarding lessons I had the opportunity to learn was: I didn’t have to feel bad, I didn’t have to doubt my decision, and I didn’t have to worry. Because to seek to do and learn to do what’s right according to the Word of God, in the face of evil, and all those in the world – regardless of their opinions, or if it makes sense to anyone else – is to the will of God. How else will they know? How else will we be able to show the light of God in a dark and fallen world?

At some point, we must be willing to take a stand. At some point, despite what others think, we must choose, do right and live for God. Or, go along with the status quo..

Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. Psalm 34:14 NIV

  1. I think, when doing right, praying each day for guidance, how others will react is not a factor. Yes, I know people do react, but to do what’s right means not being popular.
