Hungry?

Are you full, satisfied, hungry?

When life throws you lemons, do you make lemonade and drink it before you can even sell it? Do you just eat the lemon?

What fills you? Better yet, what is your comfort food of choice? Ice cream? Chocolate? Chips? Netflix? Mac’n’Cheese? Greasy fries and a burger?

Where do you turn for comfort?

Me? I’ve struggled with a healthy appetite for junk food. It’s funny how sometimes I’m not hungry for dinner, but I can eat half a pack of cookie dough. I’ve had to significantly watch what I eat after the doctor telling me that my sodium, cholesterol, and A1C levels were all elevated.

Exercise isn’t my issue. I exercise. My issue has been late-night snacking. No matter how much I eat, sometimes, I feel empty.

My issue is not food. My issue is hunger. A spiritual hunger. I came to the realization a few days ago that I have been spiritually malnourished as a result, I’m hungry. I feel empty.

This is not what Jesus intended for us. He said, Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6; …Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4; and He also said, …I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John 6:35

I would say that, yes, we’re often hungry. However, what we hunger and thirst for, the only thing that can truly satisfy our souls is Jesus Christ.

The less I have filled up on food and the more I’ve filled up on the Word of God, who is Jesus, and increased my alone time with Jesus, the more satisfied I have become. The less dependent I’ve been on junk.

We are indeed hungry, but it’s a hunger that only Jesus can satisfy.

I’m working to fill up on Jesus more and everything else, less. I don’t want to be spiritually hungry or malnourished.

    1. Hi David, thank you so much for your transparency. It confirms that we’re all in this together and many of us deal with much of the same.
