One Body In Christ

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 KJV

I did an exercise once with the kiddos at a church picnic to depict the body of Christ. I was prepared for however many children we would have from hair, ears, eyes, nose, eyebrows, neck, etc… Even down to fingernails and right thumbnail if I needed to get so detailed if we would have so many children. The thing is, I wanted the kiddos to know from a young age that there is room! There is room for each and every individual in the body of Christ without anyone taking another person’s “spot”. For the life of me, I don’t know why there is any competition in the church. Ever.

I was chatting with a friend from another church and she was distraught. She had been given the title of “Co-Director” for her church’s VBS (Vacation Bible School) and some of her co-facilitators took issue with her title and lanyard having two extra stars which coincided with her title. She shared that because of their comments, she began to feel like she no longer had the “joy of the Lord” and even asked God if she still had His joy living inside of her heart.

This saddened me.

We as a body of Christ should never do this to one another.

I sometimes watch YouTube Preacher/Pastors and I have lately had to stop/pull away because, honestly, it has been more of the same. Many of the Christian YouTubers are putting other Christian YouTubers down. I don’t profess to watch all of them or know all of their doctrinal teachings or practices, however, aren’t we all one body? Don’t we all follow One Jesus? Don’t we all believe that there is one heaven? There is enough persecution of the Church from the world, we should not be putting one another down. We need to unite as One Body in Christ in love especially in these dark and trying times. We need one another and the world needs us. We need to share God’s love with the world. We need to let God’s light shine through us. The world does enough bickering and fighting. There’s honestly no place for in God’s elect.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 KJV

  1. While I agree with most of what is written here, as a pastor, I also believe we need to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (II Peter 3:18) so that we can “discern the times, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16) and truth from error because Jesus said that, before His return, “false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.” (Matthew 24:24).

    1. Great point and well said. I agree with what you’ve said here. Thank you for your insight, we must grow in grace for sure as the days are increasingly evil with each passing day.

  2. Great message. Even in our writing community there is a lot of that. Stopped following a few bloggers whose sole focus seems to be on bashing certain movements, churches and have even names specific ministers. It does not look or feel right and it is not of God.

    1. Thanks Anneta. I agree, it does not feel right and is not of God. I was very hesitant to write about this topic, but it kept pressing on my heart. I don’t agree with bashing any one movement, church, nor minister. There’s no room for hate. We serve a God of love and His people are known by their love.

  3. One body, indeed! So many hearts, are fixated on a title, when the only title that truly matters, “a child of God!” We should be building each other up, God rewards, based on the talents, and the faithfulness of the heart! And yes, these kinds of things, sadnesses my heart too! God’s peace!

  4. Agree one body, one church, as Christians we need to lift one another up in the love of Christ, and when we see this we need to ask the Spirit of the Lord to guide our own words to speak to another who is doing this, at times someone may not know how they are hurting another, great post

    1. Well said Eileen. I agree, sometimes the hurt may come unintentionally, we must as the Holy Spirit to guide our words. I was hesitant about writing this post as I didn’t want to appear judgmental, nor did I want to cause offense.
