And Then There Was Fear

If you’ve been with me along this journey for a while, you might know that I am a veteran. I served in the as a medic in the Army, deployed to Afghanistan almost immediately after PCSing to my first duty station. I had the opportunity to do all that I had trained to do as a soldier and a medic.

Rather than experiencing fear, I felt nothing.

Isn’t it rather strange that the oddest situations bring me so much fear?

And I know the verses. I quote them: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18 NIV; “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT; “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15 NKJV

And ALL of Psalm 91…

Still… There are times when, the fear I feel is debilitating. It keeps me from my daily activities. I understand fully why there is no fear in love… because God is love. He alone is the answer for fear. The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe. Safe from whatever is the source of the fear. We’re safe – I’m safe. And all that is required is to declare the name of:

Jesus

Jesus

Jesus

There is healing in that name, deliverance in that name, bonds are broken with that name, redemption in that name, restoration happens with that name, whatever I/you/we need in that name…

And Jesus gives to us so freely.
