I have this coworker who happens to be going through a bad breakup with a child involved. And, I get it. I’ve been there, when I was going through my divorce. The sleepless nights, the difficulty concentrating on anything, especially work. Yet, the need to be at work because you can’t be anywhere else with a thousand thoughts plaguing your mind all at the same time, and not one coherent thought that you can make sense of… Yeah.. I’ve been there and remember it all too well.
One day, I said to my coworker, before knowing what was going on, “You know, you’re not alone.”
“You’re going to make me cry. I feel so alone.” Was the response.
I stayed. We sat in the silence.
“A friend loveth at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.” Proverbs 17:17 KJV
Somewhere in there, a friendship has been forged.
I’m a keep to myself kind of person, mostly. The other day, I was struggling. My own personal life issues were getting the best of me. I didn’t think anyone noticed. I did my best to stay busy, kept my headphones in my ears..
I was taken aback and moved to tears when my coworker hugged me and said: “You’re always there for everyone, it’s okay to lean on others too. I’m here for you.”
Sometimes we can be so used to pouring into others that we aren’t used to, or can’t imagine someone pouring into us. “But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” 1 Corinthians 12:24b-26 NIV
We are truly one body in Christ. We are made to live life together, encourage one another, be there for each other. I’m thankful for the friends and family, and yes, that especially includes my blog family and friends 🤍 whom God has placed in my life for the good times and the struggles. We’re truly all in this together.
