Desperation

I have discovered that one of the scariest things out there is the lengths people will go, the drastic measures they will take when they are full of desperation.

Now desperation does not have to be a negative thing. When we consider the woman with the issue of blood – her desperation drove her to Jesus. It propelled her out of her home, into what I’m sure was an uncomfortable situation, all in order to reach Jesus. Not just reach Him, she pressed her way through the crowd, reached out and touched the hem of His garment, with faith, believing, that she would be made whole. And she was! Desperation served her well! What the doctors could not do in 12 years of suffering… Just one touch…

At that same time, Jairus, who sought out Jesus in desperation, to see his 12 year old daughter healed, humbled himself. He was used to commanding, not asking, but desperation

This isn’t the desperation I’m referring to. Sadly. I’m referring to the kind that causes people to look you in the eye and lie to you. The desperation to satisfy the flesh no matter what.

It’s this desperation that scares me the most. I’ve learned to pray first, before making any decisions. I’ve learned to pay attention to the gift of discernment, listen for God’s will and His direction. Because of this I have learned that the intentions of some people are not in line with the Word of God. Some are out for selfish gain.

And just where does the desperation come from? Surely it’s desperation? What makes a person tell lies, just the desire to meet their own fleshly lusts? And what about the others involved directly and indirectly? The casualties of the lies, the lusts?

If we would be as desperate for God and feeding our spirit as we are for satisfying our fleshly desires and our lust, how different would this world be? How different would we be?
