Crisis

Everyone has experienced a crisis at some time in their lives. You may be experiencing one currently, or perhaps you’ve just overcome one. What I found interesting is that Chinese character for crisis, or weiji, is compromised of 2 characters. One means, a time of danger or chaos. The second means, a time of opportunity.

They say, Don’t get bitter, get better, right?

When we experience a crisis in our lives (financial, relational, emotional, spiritual, psychological…) How do we respond? Is it, “the end of the world” as we have known it up until that point? Or perhaps, do we view it as a lesson, an opportunity, a time to turn our eyes to Jesus?

Are we asking, “Why me?” or “Father, what am I to learn in this season?”

I like the NLT version of Proverbs 18:21. It says, “The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”

Our thoughts, our words can bring life or death to our situations, to our crises. That’s the power of the tongue, our words. There is no such thing as an idle word. The KJV version of Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

It has been more recently that I have no longer allowed the crises in my life to be times of danger and chaos, rather they have become opportunities. Opportunities for growth, lessons, growing closer to Jesus, looking to Him to be all that I need. Opportunities to allow God to work in not only my situation, but also my life. The lives of those around me.
