“God Don’t Like Ugly”

I think I hear this phrase multiple times a day since moving down south: God Don’t Like Ugly.

It’s used to explain why seemingly “bad things” happen, or will happen to “deserving” people.

“I took another walk around the neighborhood and realized that on this earth as it is— The race is not always to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor satisfaction to the wise, Nor riches to the smart, Nor grace to the learned. Sooner or later bad luck hits us all.” Ecclesiastes 9:11 MSG

Or as the KJV puts it, “…time and chance happens to us all…”

Make no mistake, I agree, God does not like sin, however, He isn’t not like us. On the contrary, it’s not His will that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

We’ve come to this place where we continue to create God in our image, rather than allowing Him to make us over, transform our thinking by the renewing of our minds, create in us a clean heart that we might not sin against Him.

Sometimes I wonder, have we become so depraved – are we so distant from Jesus that we no longer really know Him or His heart for us?

I thank God that He isn’t like us. If He were, then what of His unconditional love? What about grace and mercy? What about the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for us all on the cross?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16‭-‬17 KJV

When we consider that while we were sinners, while we were the enemies of Jesus, He died for us, for our sins. And all for love.

No, God doesn’t like sin. Still, He loves us. He wants us to come to Him, no matter how dirty and sinful we are. We must repent. We must confess that He is Lord of all. We must allow Him to come into our hearts.

Jesus loves you and me.. He loves us ♥️
