Chosen

“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” ‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

From as far back as I can recall, there has been this deep desire to be chosen. In grade school, there was heads up, seven up; classroom tasks such as: line leader, chalk board eraser, eraser cleaner; there were also the playground games: who were the team captains? Then, please God, don’t let me be the last one selected for the team..

And the list goes on from there…

I can only give my perspective as a woman, of course 😊 However, growing up, as far back as I can remember, I wanted to be chosen. I wanted to be chosen as the BFF, chosen if I dared to raise my hand with the correct answer in class, chosen by my crush, chosen for the special task, chosen to lick the spoon when mom was baking cake…

You get it right?

It’s taken most of my life to understand that while I’ve lived my life jumping through invisible hoops in hopes of being chosen, meanwhile facing one disappointment after another, whether I was chosen or not, I was already chosen.

Jesus has already chosen me – you – us! We’re already chosen! He’s not still in the process of choosing. We’re not standing around in a huddle, or circle waiting… God has already chosen us.

But will we choose Him?

Sometimes it seems like we think the choice is ours. But here’s the thing.. we didn’t have to ask Jesus to love us. We didn’t have to ask Him to suffer and die and shed His innocent blood for us. We didn’t have to ask Him, who is incorruptible to put on corruptible. We didn’t have to ask Him to take our place..

He chose to because He chose us. We are chosen!
