Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NIV
Some of you may remember that I relocated down to the Ark-La-Tex about 2 years ago. I started raising chickens about a year to a year and a half ago. Within the last 6 months, my flock has faced many challenges. The most recent challenge being, a large cat. Subsequently, we’re down from 25 chickens, to 3.
I woke up to the cries of my chickens the other morning, flipped on the light, saw a mountain lion (that’s what I told it was) had breached the coop. I fired a warning shot, to get it to run off. He seemed so confident that even the light and my presence outside didn’t deter him, neither did he run, until I fired the warning shot.
I just haven’t been able to shake the notion in my mind that just as this big cat, stalked his prey and chose an opportune moment to strike.
The enemy of our souls is like this. Stalking. Waiting for a weak, opportune moment to strike. But, according to the Word, not only strike, but to devour.
We don’t just end up engulfed in sin, fear, worry, shame… No, the enemy saw an opportune moment. We must remain vigilant. At all times.
I’m thankful that God fights for us. He protects us.
Amen!
