Have you ever had a difficult time obeying God? Like what He required of you didn’t align with your own wants to the point that it made you question: Is that really You, God?
I’ve been there. Until I realized that to disobey God, is not only rebellious, it’s also rejection. To rebel against God is to reject a relationship with Him.
To rebel against God is to reject a relationship with Him.
I’ll let that soak in for a second.
We see throughout scripture, individuals, groups of people, who rebelled against God. They rejected Him. They rejected a relationship with Him. In order to get back to a place of right relationship with God, repentance (change) was needed; submission (not our will but His will) was necessary.
I found myself in a place of confusion, not so long ago. Where the will of someone else seemed to supersede the will of God for my life. Not wanting to be in a situation where I rejected God or my relationship with Him, I attempted to acquiesce, against what I knew God had for me.
I was reminded of the prophet in 1 Kings 13.. Although God had spoken to him and given him a command, he disobeyed, listening to the voice of another prophet.
I think sometimes, people mean well, but we must be careful not to defy the Word that God has given us, just because someone else says something contrary. This can have consequences as it did the young prophet.
“For the Lord gave me this command: ‘You must not eat or drink anything while you are there, and do not return to Judah by the same way you came.’” But the old prophet answered, “I am a prophet, too, just as you are. And an angel gave me this command from the Lord: ‘Bring him home with you so he can have something to eat and drink.’” But the old man was lying to him. So they went back together, and the man of God ate and drank at the prophet’s home. Then while they were sitting at the table, a command from the Lord came to the old prophet. He cried out to the man of God from Judah, “This is what the Lord says: You have defied the word of the Lord and have disobeyed the command the Lord your God gave you. You came back to this place and ate and drank where he told you not to eat or drink. Because of this, your body will not be buried in the grave of your ancestors.” and the man of God started off again. But as he was traveling along, a lion came out and killed him. His body lay there on the road, with the donkey and the lion standing beside it.” 1 Kings 13:17-22, 24 NLT
I don’t ever want to find myself in this position. This is why we seek God through prayer, fasting, reading His Word. This is how we come to know His voice so another voice we won’t follow.
I want to stay in right relationship with Jesus Christ no matter what it takes.

Amen.
It’s a difficult place to be where you are found yourself with conflicting choices.
To obey God or man.
We shall always choose God.
Great word!

Great post. Yes, prayer, fasting, and His word—to keep seeking His will in obedience. May God grant us wisdom to discern the lies that try to stop a pursuit of God’s will in our life.

When my desire conflicts with God’s, we may wrestle a bit, but in the end he always wins. It would have been easier and better had I just submitted when I knew what God was asking.

Amen. I completely agree. This is a lesson I’m learning.. to surrender and submit to God’s will rather than trying to do what I may think I want or wish someone else wants.
