Yes and No

One of my friends once told me, He won’t let me end things with him, with regards to her then boyfriend. This puzzled me, What do you mean he won’t let you? She continued to explain that she could end things for good if he would just be done with her…

The concept was puzzling, but then not so much. What she was saying was that she lacked the resolve to stick with her decision.

I’ve been there before.

But this is not right. One could argue that a person who lacks resolve is double-minded. James 1:8 tells us that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. A person who lacks resolve is unable to make a decision. If they do make a decision, they may waver.

I’ve been there before.

Jesus taught, and James reiterated that we must be clear and resolute in our communication:

“But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.” Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.” ‭‭James‬ ‭5‬:‭12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This has really stood out to me as of late.. I admit, I have wavered in some of my decisions. But after I was reminded to let my yes be yes, and my no be no, it has become easier to be resolute.

We don’t serve a God whom operates in chaos. He doesn’t waver and He doesn’t change. Neither does He change His mind.

Everyday I work to improve my communication, and be firm in my yes and no.
