Secret Life

Over the past few months we’ve witnessed pastors of megachurches stepping down for indiscretions.

We know that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬ And we must “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Declaring that we are a Christian is important, living it on Sunday, going to church, serving – these are all important. But what I’ve come to find even more important is: How are we living our secret life?

How are we living when we go into our bedrooms and close the door?

What activities are we engaging in on our cell phones?

What activities or conversations do we participate in outside of the watchful eyes of our friends, family, children, parents?

Who are we, when no one is around?

What’s our secret life like?

Are we a Christian, on fire for God, praying, fasting, reading God’s Word – when no one is around?

Jesus taught, “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Our secret life is supposed to be where our intimacy with God is built and maintained. Not where we cultivate “dirty little secrets.” Our secret life, is where true worship takes place. It’s where fasting, takes place.

It’s not where we spend our time on video games, websites, television, or just wasting time.

I encourage you today, to evaluate your secret life. Does it edify? Does it bring glory to God?

It’s not too late to change things. But there is quickly coming a day when it will be too late.

  1. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

    Hebrews 4:13-16
