I Had To Go Through Some Things

I remember, several years ago, I had met with my pastor and his wife. There were some things going on in the church and the zealot in me wanted justice! I wanted action! I wanted it now!

It took me a great many years to fully understand what they meant when they directed me to the parable of the wheat and the tares.

Admittedly, back then, I was such a hothead, I couldn’t understand it if I tried. And I didn’t try.

I had to go through some things in life to actually understand what Jesus was talking about. I had to go through some things to understand exactly how grace and mercy and justice all work together. I had to go through some things to understand how to love my enemies. How to pray for those who persecute me.

Let me tell you, when we release our will and what we think we know – and just let Jesus have His way, and we follow His will, His example, His teachings – let me tell you, how freeing that is!

I mean burden instantly lifted!

When I started praying for the people that hurt me, I no longer feel hurt or even unforgiveness. Instead, I have a burning in my heart for them to feel the love of Jesus that I feel.
