Have You Been Bitten?

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. James 4:4 KJV

I heard a story, after moving to Louisiana, about a gentleman who raised different types of snakes. Some of these were poisonous. He lived alone. It’s speculated, that one day, while feeding the snakes, he was bitten. The man was found with multiple snakes bites, and the snakes were all roaming free. It was a dangerous recovery of his body, and gathering of his snakes. Or so I’m told.

But I can only imagine.

It just makes me think… How often do we do this? How often do we live our lives like this? Playing with fire. Laying down with poisonous snakes, assuming we will never be bitten?

I’m just as guilty.

I’m guilty of ignoring the dangers, ignoring the warnings…

Thankfully, when I’ve been bitten – and, oh yes, I’ve been bitten, it hasn’t been fatal. God has protected me.

My prayer, dear friends, is that the scales are removed from our eyes. I pray that we heed the warnings. I pray that we live according to the Word of God and that our lives are testimonies of God’s love and grace. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
