I Will Lift My Eyes

The other morning, I was reminiscing on my time in the Army, reflecting on my relationships, and just talking to God. It dawned on me that where I have my eyes set, matters.

You see, we’re supposed to lift (our) eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh (our) help. (Our) help cometh from the LORD, Which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2 KJV

Too often, our eyes are on everything else.

The issue with this is, where our eyes are set, it’s what we take in, it’s the nature that we take on. If our eyes are set on things above, set on Jesus Christ, that is the nature we take on. That’s the nature we’re supposed to have.

When our eyes are fixed on Jesus, we start to behave like Him, we start to sound like Him, we walk like Him, talk like Him, love like Him.

Have you ever been in a relationship, whether spousal or friendship, familial, work – whatever the case, and you eventually took on the nature of the other person, or the culture that surrounded you?

Yeah, me too.

I feel like this is a problem we, as the church, face today. So often, we have our eyes set on this world, that we find ourselves looking like, sounding like, behaving like this world.

This should not be.

We are supposed to be set apart, a city on a hill, salt and light in the world, a peculiar people. But we cannot be this to the world when our eyes are set on the world instead of Jesus Christ.

My hope and prayer today is that we will lift our eyes
