A Time and a Purpose

And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him… 1 Samuel 16:1a KJV

I was reminded of this verse when I found myself mourning the loss of an important relationship in my life.

I couldn’t seem to stop the tears, the grief – I couldn’t seem to move on! So, I asked God, Help! And He led me to that verse…

As King Solomon penned in Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4 KJV
[1] To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
[4] a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to mourn. There is a time for those things. And they serve a purpose. There is also a time to get up, dust yourself off, and heal.

Samuel, like me, had a hard time getting up from his place of sorrow over the loss. God wasn’t angry with him for mourning Saul. Still, the most important lesson learned here is getting up and moving on.

When God removes someone or something, He didn’t make a mistake.

The larger picture was that David, whom God selected, had to be king. This was so that prophecy of Jesus’ birth and lineage could be fulfilled.

Samuel might not have known this. Just like, in life, we can’t always see why we had to lose that job, relationship, or whatever it is we are holding onto. But we must have faith to trust God and believe that “… all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 KJV

While I still have moments of tears, sadness. I know that it’s time to get up, pick up, and walk. Walk away from what God never intended for me. Walk in His will. Walk towards all that He has planned for me and my life.
