Today

Today is a new day.

When I think about it, today is all we really have. Yesterday is filled with former today’s, tomorrow never seems to arrive, and today was yesterday’s tomorrow. So what am I doing with my today? Am I looking back at yesterday, at what might have been? Full of should have, could have, would haves? In other words full of regret? Or am I looking for tomorrow, certain and sure that I will? Meanwhile, today is drifting away..

We only have today to live. We only have today to get it right. Looking back on the past – I don’t know about you, but I will often get stuck there. Looking back on the past fills me with a plethora of emotions – usually not the greatest, I confess. Because, when I catch myself taking a glimpse of the past, it may begin as a happy memory, but somehow I find myself thinking should have done/said this, had I known, would/would not have done/said that, I could/could not have possibly done/said that..

But, we can never go back. We have only today to get it right. We have only today to forgive, seek forgiveness. We have only today to love, to show grace and mercy for others. Because Christ has loved us and shown us so much grace and mercy. We have only today to be kind to ourselves and others. So why are we putting it off for tomorrow? That elusive day that never seems to come.

There is a tomorrow that we all look for. The example that Christ desires for us to look to. The promise that He will return for us. So, as we live for today, we prepare for tomorrow, when we will see Him again.

We were called to live. Live today with all He has given you. Tomorrow isn’t promised anyway.

How will you spend today?

Will today be the day that you get it right and start to live? Will today be the day that you choose to follow God? Will today be the day that you do what you have put off for tomorrow? Will today be the day that you choose to follow God and prepare for the tomorrow when at long last, we will live with Him? What will you do today?
