“I Cannot Come Down”

That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief. And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? Nehemiah 6:2-3 KJV

I’ll start by saying: Don’t stop. Don’t give up. Don’t come down off the wall. No matter how difficult the challenge, no matter what THEY may be saying, whatever God has instructed you to do, see it through until completion. You’ve got this!

Someone, maybe just myself, needed to hear that.

There are times, especially when we are doing the will of God, when it may seem like, or maybe quite literally, there are opposing forces, people, even trying to cause us to stop what we are doing. Sometimes, we are placed in a position where we may doubt if we are actually doing what we’re supposed to be doing.

But if Jesus said it – if He called you to it, there is no room for doubt. And, most important, don’t quit. Don’t come down from whatever wall you are on. Don’t stop repairing whatever breach needs to be repaired.

I think the saying goes: If He called you to it, He’ll bring you through it.

Too often in this world, when we are doing what God called us to do, we do become afraid. The heat gets turned up and it can seem like too much. Maybe, it is too much! In these times – in the big, small, hard, easy, good and/or bad – know, trust and believe that we serve a God who fights for us. We serve a God who’s hands and shoulders are big, wide and strong enough to carry our burdens.

He can! So don’t come down today. Press on until the race is won.

  1. Amen, Jessy B! This is a great word, one I really needed to hear. Your thoughts remind me of the saying, “Everything looks like failure in the middle.” I’m currently in the middle of something I feel God called me to do, but the pressure has been on and I’m doubting myself. Your post reminds me: though I may doubt myself, I should not doubt God. Thank you! God Bless.

    1. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, David. I will keep you in my prayers. I know that you will make it. I’m in a similar situation: doubting, wondering… I read this passage the other day and felt so encouraged! I’m thankful that God speaks to us through His Word.
