Closing the Door

“When one door closes, another opens.”

“When God closes a door, somewhere He opens a window.”

“We often look so long at the closed door that we fail to see the one that has opened for us.”

And there are countless other quotes for closed doors… The thing about the above quotes and the plethora of similar quotes, is that the closed doors appear to be something done to us.

But what about the doors that we must close ourselves?

Sometimes in order to walk in the light, the freedom, the joy that Jesus has afforded us; to be who He called us to be; to walk the path that He has ordained – sometimes, we have to be the ones to close some doors in our lives.

Thing is, sometimes, there are doors in our lives that we may have intentionally opened, not realizing the consequences. Sometimes the doors were opened unintentionally. Then, it seems like we don’t realize what Pandora’s Box we have opened until the door has been burst wide open. Sometimes, we allow others to open doors that were never meant to be opened.

Whatever the case, whatever the situation, sometimes we have to close some doors in our lives.

I have, personally, spent more time than I care to admit, stuck, frozen in time, staring at doors that have been closed or that I closed. I have also learned from this experience that when I am so busy, staring longingly, in front of a door that has closed, or was never meant to be opened, or was never actually opened; that I can no longer see the doors that are opened, the doors that are meant for me to walk through.

Too often our eyes on what we cannot have, or those closed doors. When this happens, our vision becomes blurry to what God intended for us to have – what path He intended for us to take – what door He intended for us to walk through.
