Dallas Willard once said, “If God doesn’t speak today, then the greatest disservice we could ever do to people is to tell them that they could have a personal relationship with God.”
I found this to be such a powerful quote. God still speaks today. But the thing is, we, Christians, the Body of Christ, the Church, sometimes seem to be hesitant to profess that God speaks to us today.
But of course He does! He spoke as early as Adam, back in the Garden of Eden, all throughout the Old Testament to the prophets. He spoke throughout the New Testament to the Apostles. And, God speaks to His church, today!
If we don’t acknowledge that God is speaking to us today, how can any of us truly enter into personal relationships with Him? Wouldn’t we just be serving the God that we heard about from someone else, who heard about Him from someone who heard Him speak once upon a time when He used to talk to man? Which would nullify His Word – because He is the same, He never changes although His mercies are new each day…
The way relationships, all relationships grow over time, is through conversations. It’s the same with God. Prayer isn’t a linear process. Although we make our petitions known unto God, we also must make room to be still and listen for His voice, because He speaks.

Amen! Prayer is not a linear process, it’s more like surround sound speakers. When we are truly tuned in to God, we hear and see him all around us.
