Thou Art With Me

‭Psalm 23:4 KJV‬ Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

But wait. I’m supposed to walk through this valley? It’s dark here. I can’t see anything. Death. Fear – they’re surrounding me on every side. The stench – oh the horrible stench, the decaying smell of death, the putrid scent of fear fills my nostrils.

The psalmist said that I’m not supposed to fear any evil, because, God, You’re with me. Down here. In this dark, dank place.

Thou art with me

Thou art with me

But Jesus, I can’t feel You near. I can’t feel Your presence. I can’t hear Your voice. I can’t see Your light. This dark has me surrounded. I can’t see anything at all. But Thou art with me.

Thou art with me.

Yeah, the more I say it, the more I see a glimmer – is that light? The light of Your glory?

Thy rod and thy staff

You’re the Good Shepherd. You’re the Shepherd who will leave the 99 in order to find the 1.

To find me.

So, thy rod and thy staff, they truly do comfort me.

Thou art with me.

No! I’m not alone.

You said that You wouldn’t leave me comfortless. You had to go away so the Comforter could come.

You sent Your Holy Spirit. Thou art with me.

Suddenly, the fear is gone. I’m not alone! It doesn’t matter how dark the shadow of death, it doesn’t matter how low the valley, it doesn’t even matter how wicked the evil because, Thou art with me.

You’re with me, God! And you comfort me. You soothe me. You heal me. You deliver me. You save me. You rescue me. You protect me. You keep me. You provide for me. You love me.

Thank You, Jesus, for You truly love me and Thou art with me.
