Not Looking Back

But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. Genesis 19:26 KJV

You know, I’ve thought about the story of Lot, Lot’s wife, quite a bit over the years.

In Luke 17:32, Jesus tells us, “Remember Lot’s wife.” To be honest, these three words pack such profound lessons. I actually learned a new lesson this past weekend

Lot, and his immediate family, were delivered from Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot’s wife, although she made it out, physically, from the fire and brimstone being rained down from heaven on those wicked cities, her deliverance was only a physical deliverance. The deliverance never reached her heart and soul.

As a result, she lost her life.

How many times has God delivered us from situations, but we found ourselves back there because our hearts remained.

God help us.

I don’t want my deliverance, my change, my redemption to be so shallow. I want it to reach my heart and soul.

I don’t want to be delivered only physically. I want to be delivered all the way down to my heart and soul. I don’t want my heart to long for the very things that God has delivered me out of.

My prayer is that we don’t look back, we don’t go back. When God delivers us, don’t look back.
