Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NLT
Do you remember who you were before Jesus saved you? Before He cleaned you up, pulled you out of the muck and washed you clean from your entanglement of sin?
Maybe you are blessed to have been born and raised in the church. Maybe you have the beautiful testimony of never straying. Allow me to please say: what a blessing that is! I pray you never take it for granted. And if this is, indeed, your testimony, may you be thankful for the covering of God’s grace that you have not tasted the bitter side of the sinful world.
Sometimes, I admit, I forget. I forget that I am dirty. I have a past. I am a sinner.
Sometimes, I act as though my sins, my past aren’t “as bad” as the next person’s. As if the next person’s sins are somehow less deserving of God’s grace.
I’m so ashamed.
The thing is, I have been forgiven of so much! And, yes, I do believe that Jesus’ blood has wiped my sins clean. I believe that His blood has erased my past, I believe that when I went down in those waters of baptism, I was washed! I’m forgiven and set free.
So who am I to look at someone else and think that God can’t, or won’t, do the same for them?
Yes, I do believe that just as easily as He can set me free from depression, suicidal thoughts – with me never being the same, He absolutely can set a drug addict, alcoholic, prostitute free from the sin that so easily entangled them.
It doesn’t matter the sin. It doesn’t matter the length of time of the entanglement of the sin. We serve a God who is greater than it all. He can save and deliver a soul in the blink of an eye.
I had forgotten this.
I had a very real experience recently, that woke me up to the reality that I had forgotten the power of the God that I serve.
I’m thankful that He heals the sick, delivers the addict, saves the lost – He’s the same God and He is so very faithful!

Amen. Jesus came into this darkened world to bring His light. His mercy became the bridge between our sin and the Father.
