And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt. Numbers 14:4 KJV
I used to often wonder why would the Israelites want to return to Egypt? Egypt represented the land of their captivity, bondage, oppression… So, why would they want to return to that when they’ve been delivered? They’ve been set free!
Well, I realized that although God has delivered me from Egypt, not only have I returned, but just as the ancient Egyptians embalmed and mummified their dead to preserve them, I’ve done the same with things, situations, people, chains, bondages from which God has delivered me.
What a sobering thought.
And I know, in my mind, that we must “We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 NLT
However, I can tell you from experience, it takes putting on the full armor of God, an avid prayer life, fasting, and a deep desire to serve and seek Jesus, holiness, and His righteousness.
When God shined a light on Egypt in my life, that I had preserved – well, allow me to say, I’m thankful that it is not God’s will for any of us to stay bound!

This really hit home. It’s so easy to hold onto what’s familiar, even when it’s something God has already freed us from. We get stuck in what’s comfortable instead of stepping into the freedom He’s calling us to. Letting go isn’t always easy, but when we trust God and release those things, He leads us into something so much better. Thanks for the reminder to stop holding onto the past and start walking in His plan for our lives.
