Craving

My dad used to say that a pregnant woman’s cravings were all in her head. I wasn’t sure if I agreed or not, until I found myself craving the Big Mac from McDonald’s, before I even knew I was pregnant. And let me add, I didn’t like Big Macs.

Our cravings can be so powerful. They can seemingly overwhelm and overpower you to the point that if not satisfied, it’s the only thing on your mind. You can’t think of anything else, nothing else will suffice, until you’ve satisfied that craving, satiated that appetite.

Jesus taught, Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 KJV

I had to ask myself, Is this what I crave? Are my appetites for righteousness, Jesus, the Word of God? Or am I craving to satisfy my flesh?

Admittedly, sometimes my appetites/cravings are completely worldly. And I discovered that if I indulge in these cravings, I never find myself full. I find myself craving more and more, feeling like there’s some sort of void in me. But, Jesus has the solution to this as well:

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:13-14 KJV

When our cravings are for anything other than Jesus and His Word, righteousness, we’re left empty, needing/wanting more, more, more.

But, let me tell you, when you crave Jesus, you can experience what it’s like to not only be filled and full, but completely satiated.

  1. Amen. When faced with the false promises of the flesh or embracing the need to crave every moment of Jesus, the choice quickly becomes a no-brainer. Jessy, blessings for sharing this insightful testament.
