“Good Christian”

I live in the Bible Belt. I may have mentioned this before…

Here, in the Bible Belt, there are multiple churches on almost every corner. Every Christian denomination you can think of.

On Sunday mornings, the churches are filled with “Good Christians.”

These are the type that don’t miss a service, pay tithes, sing on the praise and worship team, teach Sunday School, greet you at the door with a smile, and the list goes on and on.

I’ve had the opportunity to meet these “Good Christians” both in and out of the church walls.

And, I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t want to be a “Good Christian.”

I can’t spend another day, attending a church service, leaving unchanged. I don’t want to wake up and go through the motions; never coming to know Jesus for myself, never experiencing Him, God’s love and mercy.

I don’t want to pick up and put on my “Good Christian” cloak as I walk into a Sunday service, with my warm and welcoming smile, “God bless you“, “Praise the Lord“, and “Amen pastor!” Only to toss my “Good Christian” cloak aside, check the box, “see you next Sunday!”

I want that good, old fashioned, conviction. Remember when we left church, with a conviction that sparked change?

Remember when we truly believed the God of the Bible?

Remember when we saw miracles take place in and out of church?

We weren’t “Good Christians” then. We were on fire with the Holy Ghost! We were hungry for God’s presence in our lives. We were zealous, passionate, and longing for more – more of God’s Spirit, more of His presence!

We didn’t hide our lights under a bushel. We told everyone we knew of the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ!

We didn’t only believe it, we knew deep down in our bones that Jesus is alive. That He not only took our place when He died on the cross for our sins, but He also conquered death, hell, and grave. We didn’t care what anyone thought of us, because we were sold out for Jesus!

I pray that we all yearn for the fire of the Holy Ghost again! And that it becomes so overwhelming that it spills over to our homes, neighbors, coworkers, and everyone we meet.
