It’s Not About Me

“I choose gentleness… Nothing is won by force. I choose to be gentle. If I raise my voice may it be only in praise. If I clench my fist, may it be only in prayer. If I make a demand, may it be only of myself.” Max Lucado

As I posted previously, I experienced some hurt recently and struggled with forgiveness. Coming, at last, to a place of forgiveness, I realized that my heart was bleeding all over the ones that were closest to me – the ones I love the most. We do this sometimes, not realizing it.

Not only was I bleeding on them, but I was hurting them. My hurt was causing hurt.

I finally came to a place where I realized, It’s Not About Me…

You see, when we hold onto things – hurts, pains – it impacts everyone around us. When we choose forgiveness, it impacts everyone around us.

“Forgive and give as if it were your last opportunity. Love like there’s no tomorrow, and if tomorrow comes, love again.” Max Lucado

Forgiveness is not just for us, but those around us. We aren’t harming the person whom caused us pain, when we choose not to forgive, we are harming ourselves and those whom we love.

After realizing what I was doing, I apologized to my kiddos. I hadn’t seen them. I was so consumed with my own hurt, that I hadn’t seen them… I didn’t realize that they were hurting also.

Sometimes, it’s easy to become consumed with our own pain and hurt, that we lose sight of others… Thus, I was reminded, It’s Not About Me. It never was. It’s about learning to put myself aside and loving as Christ loves me. Love covers a multitude. How can I ever teach my children how to love, how to forgive, if I cannot show them how to walk the walk?

It is not something that we do on our own, but something He helps us do. I have to actually visualize myself letting go and laying it down on an altar. It’s the only way to truly be free. Letting go – my hands off, His hands on…

There are so many lessons to learn when enduring hardships and trials. Often, it’s about the process, or the journey. It’s about trusting God through those times. He holds us ever so close!

“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Psalms‬ ‭34:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  1. “My hurt was causing hurt / I finally came to a place where I realized, It’s Not About Me…” This is a profound truth often only assimilated by those with experience rooted in mindfulness. Many aspire to reach this point, few really achieve it…
