Validation

I met someone recently, a fellow divorcé. Through our conversation, I recognized something in him that was so akin to me, once upon a time. A need for validation.

So often, it can be so easy to get wrapped up in the thoughts and opinions of others, so easy to allow others to tell us our worth… When the only thoughts and opinions regarding us should be what God thinks of us. God tells us our worth. And, friends, He saw us so worth it, that He sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. He saw us so worthy that, God Himself, came down, formed man in His own likeness, and breathed into each and every one of us the breath of life.

If that’s not validating, I don’t know what is!

I’ve begun to parent my children a bit differently.. I grew up seeking the validation of dear old mom and dad… Honestly, more often than not, I was left feeling as if my best wasn’t good enough. I began to strive harder, do more, try to be the best of the best – in hopes of gaining their approval, their validation that I am good enough.

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10 KJV

One of the best lessons that I have learned to date is that my worth does not come from man, rather from God. We are not to be menpleasers. All that we do should be done unto the Lord. As I tell my kids: from homework to schoolwork to chores, etc… all that we do must be done to the Lord. That’s where our validation comes in. I think many relationships fail today, because so many are seeking a validation from their relationship and/ or significant other, that can only come from God.
