Nothing Hidden

What do you do when you think no one is watching?

So, there I was, sitting in my car, not at all hidden, in the parking lot at work. My windows are not tinted. My car does not have an invisible cloak. Yet, I watch a gentleman walk up to a tree, in front of my car. “Huh, why is he not walking on the sidewalk? I guess he is avoiding the traffic,” I think and continue to read emails on my work cell. But, I realize, he’s still there at the tree. I look up. “Oh. OH!” He was urinating on the tree and scanning to see if anyone could see him. I quickly look down – I didn’t see anything, thank God – and before he sees me. He eventually leaves from the same direction he came.

The thought stuck in my head: What do you do when you think no one can see you? I realized, someone can always see us. Whether we see them or not; whether we know them or not. Someone always sees/knows.

Nothing is hidden.

My momma used to say, “Everything done in the dark, God will bring it to light.” I remember rolling my eyes a time or two. But, she was right. Nothing is hidden. In time, every secret thing is revealed. Our true natures are revealed, if we lead a double life. Those dark, hidden truths, eventually come to surface. Nothing can stay buried for long…

I often challenge the kids to remain consistent wherever they are. This is consistent in their conversation and behavior. My belief is that it will alleviate the stress of leading a double life and trying to fit the standards of others. If you are true to yourself and consistent, you will never have to worry about who sees you.

I was sharing an anecdote from my day with my kids My eldest startled me when she said, Wow, you really are the same wherever you go. It was not at all the point of the story. But, it made me think, What if I were “someone else” away from my kids? What lesson would that teach? Surely it would get back to them eventually… It was reassuring that she was able to pick up on the consistency of my personality even through my little anecdote.

“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭15:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Whether we acknowledge Him or not, God is always watching us. (I may have posted this saying before, but) Somewhere, I heard it put this way: even when we are not faithful, God is faithful and He never turns His eyes away from us. Just wow! He is always watching! Heaven is always cheering us on, willing us to do well! Just that little bit of information makes me want to be better, do well, not mess up! You know? Nothing is hidden from His sight anyway!

  1. So funny that you took a picture of “the tree”😁
What a great reminder that GOD sees everything and always.
I was blessed by your article and for me at my present situation, where another person has most likely given false witness about me, it is more a reassurance than a threat that MY FATHER has seen everything. And that HE knows what truly happened – and that eventually, HE will judge… thank you for this beautiful inspiration, my sister, and GOD bless you.

    1. You are very welcome. You know, sometimes we become discouraged when someone has given a false witness concerning us. Remember that we are to lean not to our own understandings and we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. And above ALL THAT, GREATER IS HE WHO IS IN US THAN HE WHO IS IN THE WORLD. Yes, He knows what truly happened, and you have a Father who has your back. Be comforted by that, rest in that. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
