Grace to Forgive

Tenth Avenue North wrote a song, Losing, back in 2012:

Verse 1 –

I can’t believe what she said
I can’t believe what he did
Oh, don’t they know it’s wrong
Don’t they know it’s wrong
Well maybe there’s something I missed
But how could they treat me like this
It’s wearing out my heart
The way they disregard

This is love or this is hate…
We all have a choice to make

Chorus – l

Oh, Father wont You forgive them
They don’t know what they’ve been doin’ (oh no)
Oh Father, give me grace to forgive them
Cause I feel like the one losin’

I said it and meant it: I forgive you.

In truth, I do. I forgive the lies spread about me. I forgive the hurt caused. I forgive the offenses. I don’t understand the why behind the what. But I forgive.

I didn’t try to defend myself against the absurdities. My dad always said, You can’t out lie a liar. I never understood this, other than truth prevails. I have learned that oftentimes, people don’t care about the truth when a person who lies spins a great tale. So whether they’ve known you your entire life or a few moments, intimately or from a distance, the lie sounds appealing. People flock to the lie. They repeat it. Never concerned about the truth or the impact the lie has on the person being lied on.

But there is grace. Grace to forgive and I choose to forgive.
